As the Monet Richardson Community Foundation reflects on its fifth anniversary, the Board of Directors would like to share an important organizational update with our supporters, partners, volunteers, and community.
After months of thoughtful evaluation, meaningful discussion, and consultation with community partners and professional advisors, the Board of Directors has decided to formally dissolve the Monet Richardson Community Foundation.
While this marks the closing of an important chapter, we choose to reflect on the many positive moments, relationships, and accomplishments that have defined the Foundation’s five years of service. This decision was made with great consideration and sincere appreciation for the opportunity we have had to serve our community.
Since its founding, the Monet Richardson Community Foundation has remained committed to uplifting youth, supporting families, and creating meaningful opportunities for children and young people. Through the generosity of our donors, dedication of our volunteers, support of our sponsors, and partnerships built throughout the community, the Foundation was able to bring that mission to life in meaningful ways.
Over the past five years, MRCF provided more than 1800 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to children in our communities. The Foundation also awarded $16,000 in academic scholarships to help students pursue their educational goals, as well as a $1,000 Humanitarian Scholarship. Through community events, fundraising initiatives, volunteer efforts, and generous donor support, MRCF provided resources, encouragement, and opportunities for young people as they worked toward brighter futures.
Each program, event, donation, volunteer hour, and act of kindness played a part in furthering the Foundation’s mission and creating a positive impact in the communities we served. We are proud of the work accomplished and grateful for the opportunity to have made a difference in the lives of so many young people and families.
As the Foundation begins the formal dissolution process, we remain committed to communicating clearly and thoughtfully with our stakeholders and ensuring that all remaining organizational matters are handled responsibly and with integrity. In accordance with the Foundation’s governing requirements for dissolution, remaining assets will be allocated to two nonprofit organizations, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA and East Carolina University (ECU), to continue supporting the legacy work that reflects MRCF’s mission and values.
This allocation ensures that the work does not simply end with the Foundation’s dissolution. Through these two outstanding organizations, opportunities to support youth, education, families, and community well-being will continue. Most importantly, the legacy of Monet “Krissy” Richardson will live on through the meaningful work of the YMCA and ECU.
As we look back over the past five years, we are especially grateful for every volunteer, donor, sponsor, community partner, supporter, and advocate who believed in the vision of the Monet Richardson Community Foundation and helped turn that vision into action.
Although the Foundation is coming to the end of its organizational journey, the impact of the work accomplished together does not end here. The memories created, opportunities provided, scholarships awarded, children supported, lives touched, and relationships built over the past five years will remain a meaningful part of the Foundation’s legacy.
Because of you, we were able to make a difference—and that is something we will always be proud of. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who has been part of the Monet Richardson Community Foundation. Your generosity, encouragement, time, and belief in our mission made our work possible. We are grateful for all that we have accomplished together and for the lasting impact that will continue through the lives of those we were privileged to serve.
With gratitude and appreciation,
Pat Richardson
